The Issue of Homelessness

A Crisis That
Demands Action

“Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” — Isaiah 58:7

A Crisis Close to Home

Homelessness in Ontario has reached a breaking point. In London alone, the crisis has deepened so drastically that Ark Aid Mission has gone from serving 100 people a day to over 2,000 in just 3.5 years. With shelters overwhelmed and support systems stretched thin, more people than ever are facing the unimaginable reality of life without a home.

London is one of the hardest-hit cities in the province, a reflection of a broader national failure to provide safe, affordable housing. The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Report outlines the urgent need for immediate and systemic change, making it clear: homelessness is not just an individual crisis—it is a policy crisis.

At Ark Aid Mission, we believe no one should be left behind. Through 365 Days of Rest, we provide safe spaces, warm meals, and pathways to stability every single day. But the need continues to grow, and so must our response.

Together, we can restore dignity, hope, and belonging.

Understanding the Crisis

The homelessness crisis is fueled by interconnected challenges, including:

Housing Shortages

Affordable housing is scarce, and skyrocketing rents leave many without options.

Economic Insecurity

Job loss, low wages, and poverty push people into homelessness.

Health Barriers

Mental health challenges and addictions often go untreated due to lack of accessible care.

Systemic Gaps

Insufficient healthcare, social services, and housing policies exacerbate the crisis.

Our Response

At Ark Aid Mission, we believe that every person deserves to be Beheld. Beloved. Belong. Our approach is grounded in compassion, dignity, and action. Through initiatives like 365 Days of Rest, we provide safe spaces, warm meals, and holistic support for individuals experiencing homelessness.

We don’t just address immediate needs—we work toward long-term solutions by:
•  Advocating for Change: Pushing for increased affordable housing and improved social supports.
•  Building Partnerships: Collaborating with local organizations to amplify impact.
•  Fostering Hope: Empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity.
