Job Summary
The Special Events Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of Ark Aid’s events and engagement initiatives. This role contributes to strengthening community connections, supporting fundraising activities, and assisting with organizational storytelling and outreach.
This position is based within the Fundraising, Special Events and Public Relations Team, which provides support across a range of initiatives, including event planning, marketing and communications. It also supports across departments within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Events Planning & Coordination
- Support the planning and coordination of key events for fundraising and appreciation.
- Assist with event logistics, scheduling, vendor coordination, and on-site event setup and support
- Provide on-site and third-party event support, including staffing information tables/booths and assisting with in-kind and monetary donation collection (including evenings and weekends as required)
Campaigns & Strategic Projects
- Be integral in supporting the launch of our Food Truck (The Giving Truck) that will be a part of community awareness while providing a new service to those in need.
- Support the development of a multi-year fundraising campaign aligned with Ark Aid’s strategic priorities
- Contribute to structured project workflows across a phased student model, supporting continuity and handoff processes between placements
Marketing & Communications Support
- Assist with the creation of marketing and promotional materials for events and campaigns
- Support storytelling initiatives across social media, email, print, and website platforms
- Assist with the coordination and distribution of promotional materials, campaign assets, and outreach messaging
- Working with the communications team to capture event photos for use on our social media and website.
Creative & Media Support
- Assist with in-house graphic design needs for event banners, social media content, and promotional materials
- Support photography at events and general organizational marketing (DSLR camera preferred; high-quality phone photography acceptable)
General Support
- Assist with cross-functional coordination across programs and departments
- Provide flexible support as needed for evolving events and engagement priorities

Working Conditions
This position supports activities in both office and community-based settings across Ark Aid facilities and external event locations.

Job Summary
The Cleaner plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Ark Aid Street Mission Inc. by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all who enter our space. This position is responsible for the upkeep of the building and surrounding grounds, including janitorial duties, minor repairs, and safety checks. The Cleaner also assists with the sorting and distribution of donations, contributing to the overall functioning and care of the facility.
This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness and safety within a community-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and presentable building, both inside and outside
- Clean and disinfect high-traffic areas
- Empty trash and perform minor repairs as needed
- Sanitize restrooms and keep entrances clear
- Perform routine safety checks of ventilation systems, heating and cooling systems, and other essential services
- Track inventory and order janitorial supplies, ensuring tools and supplies are in working condition
- Assist in receiving, sorting, and distributing donations (secondary to janitorial duties)

Working Conditions
The Cleaner position at Ark Aid Street Mission Inc. involves work in a variety of settings, including both indoor and outdoor areas across multiple Ark Aid facilities. Duties may be performed in offices, kitchens, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, storage areas, and exterior grounds, including sidewalks, parking areas, and donation drop-off points.
Working conditions include:
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and sanitation products requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to WHMIS standards
- Work in proximity to marginalized populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use, and other vulnerabilities. Professionalism, respect, and compassion are required at all times
- Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and walking for extended periods
- Working in varying weather conditions (rain, snow, heat)
- Frequent handling of donations, including sorting, lifting, and transporting items
- Exposure to bodily fluids, waste, or discarded materials, particularly in high-traffic or unsheltered areas
- Possible encounters with pests, insects, and rodents, especially in exterior or storage areas
The Cleaner is expected to report sightings and assist with preventative measures in accordance with pest control protocols and health and safety guidelines. All tasks are to be performed following Ark Aid’s Health and Safety policies, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and infection prevention standards. Training and support will be provided to ensure staff safety and well-being in this essential role.

Job Summary
The Social Services Volunteer Support role assists in building and maintaining Ark Aid’s volunteer community. This position provides administrative, logistical, and program support to help ensure volunteers are effectively onboarded, engaged, and placed in roles that align with organizational needs and volunteer interests.
This role functions as part of the Human Resources Team while supporting the efforts of Volunteer Engagement and Coordination and working collaboratively with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Support the recruitment process by assisting with screening prospective volunteers, including reference checks and required Vulnerable Sector Checks
- Assist in the planning and delivery of volunteer orientations
- Help match volunteers with appropriate programs and roles based on skills, interests, and organizational needs
Volunteer Administration
- Maintain accurate volunteer files, records, and database information
- Track volunteer hours and assist with preparing reports as requested
- Support ensuring volunteer compliance with Ark Aid policies and procedures
Engagement & Communication
- Respond to volunteer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with ongoing communication and updates to volunteers
- Follow up with volunteers and program staff regarding placements and support needs
- Support the coordination of volunteer appreciation activities
